To be honest, I really like this, but the melody kinda messes with my brain in some parts

yup, there's a bit of music theory behind it.

basically the melody is in 10/8 time, split into two pairs of 3/8 and 2/8 segments.
however the drums are in 4/4 time, split into two pairs of 2/4 segments.

these times also share a common factor and eventually overlap when the melody sounds different.
